About Oze National Park

Oze is Honshu’s largest high-altitude peat bog, spanning four prefectures: Gunma, Fukushima, Niigata, and Tochigi.

Designated as a Special Natural Monument and registered as a Ramsar wetland, it captivates visitors with its endless wooden boardwalks, delicate wetland flora, and the majestic surrounding mountains, including Mount Hiuchigatake.

Vast wetland “Ozegahara”

I started this adventure from trailhead,Hatomachitoge.
It was rainy and cloudy but it is good for hiking in Oze, because rain and fog make Oze more Dreamy.

After a short walk, I encounterd the Vast wetland “Ozegahara”.
The area of Ozegahara was more large than I expected.
It was so large that I couldn’t see the end of the wetland.

If it was sunny we can see Mt.Hiuchigatake clearly and this pond reflect the shape, it must have been amazing.
This pond called “Kagamiike”, “Kagami” means the mirror.

Many flowers were blooming.
In Oze, White skunk cabbage that is named “Mizubasyo” is famos but the timing I went to Oze was too late to see “Mizubasyo”.

The village of mountain cabins

I arrived at mountain cabin.
Ozegahara has 5 mountain cabins and I stayed at “Hiuchigoya”

Any cabins have bath Because of the abundant water in Oze.
This is one reason Oze is popular aomong the hikers.

I enjoyed the village of mountain cabins and came across the nice cafes.
Coffee time in Ode’s nature was beyond description and cucumber that was chilled with Oze’s water was so delicious.
(By the way, I hate Tomato.)

As expected, the Wetland surrounded by fog was beautiful.

Early the next morning, fog spread on the ground and the scenery was so dreamy.
Someday, I want to come back to Ozegahara to see the spectacular view on a sunny day and white skunk cabbage that is named “Mizubasyo”

Second day I Climbed Mt.Hiuchigatake and visited Swanp named Ozenuma.
